The undersigned Latin America socialist and anti-capitalist organisations and personalities, committed to the achievement of sovereignty, freedom and democracy of our peoples, strongly condemn the new attempt to overthrow the Venezuelan elected government, of the President Nicolas Maduro.

This time it can comes by way of a coup d’état or a foreign intervention, cynically coordinated by the US Government. An imperialist intervention, as occurred on other occasions, won’t protect democracy or human rights, but the opposite. And that it is not only against the Maduro government, but to maintain the imperialist domination in the region.

Between January 22 and 23, 2019, we saw the beginning of a coordinated action managed by the White House, consisting on the nasty call made by Mike Pence to set up a usurping and illegitimate presidency, on which nobody voted for. This policy, dictated by Pence on behalf of Trump, has been applied in Venezuela with accuracy.

At the international level, the OAS and the regional countries which supported the “Lima Declaration” immediately subordinated themselves to the imperialist plans recognizing the presidency of Juan Guaidó. In the first place, Bolsonaro, Macri, Piñera and Duque, with a pretension to implement a blockade against Venezuela, in line with Trump’s militarist policy of Trump and collaborating with a supposed provocation to justify a military intervention.

The real usurper, Guaidó, contributes to this provocation by taking refuge in the Colombian embassy in Venezuela.

From our countries, we join and integrate the internationalist, anti-imperialist and unitary that condemn that attempt of coup d’état in Venezuela.

We call for broad international campaigns against this new chapter of the long history of American interventions in our continent. Defending Venezuelan sovereignty does to ignore the contradictions of and criticisms towards the Maduro government.

Undoubtedly, and should be a basic democratic concept, only the free, sovereign and democratic Venezuelan people, not controlled by any imperialist power, should be the owner of their own future.

No to the coup in Venezuela!
